(ECNS) – Jenny Shipley, the 36th Prime Minister of New Zealand, has suggested the setup of an E-WTO (World Trade Organization) to coordinate development of e-commerce around the globe.

Shipley, the country's first female PM, raised the point at the 2015 annual meeting of the International Finance Forum in Beijing, held from November 6 to 8.

"E-commerce is rapidly changing the international trade system and global finance market," Shipley said. "In fact, we have to take e-commerce into consideration when we make decisions. That's why I suggest we have an E-WTO."

Shipley said it's time that countries discuss the framework of such an organization. China, with its booming e-commerce, should take a leading role in the efforts, she said.
