(ECNS) -- A ceremony for erecting China-Russia border markers was held in Hunchun city of Jilin province on Wednesday, China News Service reports.

In 1993, Russia agreed to return a 4.7 sq km area along Hubutu River located on both countries' eastern border, which formed part of territory taken during the Qing Dynasty.

In 2014, five new names were approved by the State Council, including "Jibei Ling, Tuolun Gang, Jilong Gou, Hongqi Zhuang and Lanxiang Ping.

Local officials attended the unveiling ceremony for five boundary markers bearing the names and discussed a plan for opening a Hubutu River border trading port.

Hubutu River, a tributary of the Suifen, has been added to local maps.
