(ECNS) -- A woman in Beijing's Changping district has sued a local bank to retrieve money deposited into her ex-husband's bankbook by mistake, arousing much attention in the process.
In July, the woman, surnamed Huang, carelessly deposited 50,000 yuan ($7,888) for her ex-husband, who had passed away several months ago.
Realizing the mistake on the spot, she asked the bank to return the sum, but was refused. The bank asked Huang to get notarized statements of inheriting assets.
However, the notary office also refused. The money, not belonging to Huang's ex-husband before death, can't be inherited, they explained.
After unsuccessful negotiation, Huang filed a lawsuit against the bank. The case is ongoing.
