(ECNS) -- A woman desperate to find a wife for her 30-year-old son has been caught secretly taking photos of saleswomen at a supermarket so he could pick his favorite, Chongqing Economic Times reports.
The incident took place at a supermarket in Banan district, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality on August 2, 2015. A shop assistant surnamed Zhang discovered she was being inappropriately photographed by a 50-year-old woman using her mobile phone.
She followed the woman and found she was hiding behind corners to take photos of other shop assistants rather than shopping.
Zhang approached the woman and asked her to delete the photos, but the woman refused and police were called.
On arrival, police seized the photographer's mobile phone, on which they found more than 10 pictures of young shop assistants. When asked about her motivation, the woman said she just wanted to help her son find a girlfriend.
The woman's son likes staying home and has little contact with girls, which worries her.
Police say the law makes it illegal for anyone to photograph or videotape others unaware. Offenders can receive a warning or be fined 500 yuan or detained for between five to 10 days.
Tan Gangqiang, a relationships expert, says the woman may get the opposite result to what she was hoping for as many children go against their parent's wishes if they deem them to be interfering in their affairs.
Tan suggests parents should instead communicate positively with their children and encourage them to socialize and find their Mr or Mrs Right by themselves as people of different generations have different expectations.
