(ECNS) - Beijing is home to a large number of wealthy singles, according to the Beijing News, citing a survey released on Monday by dating website Zhenai.com.

The website took a sample of its 80 million members to conduct the survey. Those who earned at least twice the average local salary are categorized as "wealthy."

Beijing has the highest percentage of wealthy singles who earn more than 50,000 yuan (about $8,050) per month, followed by Shenzhen, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

The survey says that Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai are leading China in terms of wealthy single residents, most of whom were born in the 1980s. Approximately half say they will remain single until they find true love.

Over 15 percent of the single females surveyed hold a master's degree or above, compared to 8.04 percent of males. Most such females work in the finance or education industries, while more males are in manufacturing, IT, and finance.

More than half of the wealthy singles hold the positions of department manager or director.

Among secondary cities, Chengdu has the largest number of wealthy singles who have more than 500,000 yuan in savings, trailed by Chongqing and Nanjing.

Some 23 percent of wealthy singles are "too busy" to date, while 8.79 percent are psychologically scared of marriage, and 6.21 percent enjoy the freedom of being single.
