(ECNS) -- Shi Yongxin, the scandal-plagued abbot of the Shaolin Temple, will head a delegation of 100 monks to demonstrate kung fu in Thailand on Sunday.

The performance will take place at the Bangkok Royal Navy Meeting Center to jointly celebrate the birthday of Thailand's Queen Sirikit, the 60th birthday of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and the 40th anniversary of China-Thailand diplomatic ties.

The event was organized by the China-Thailand Industrial and Commercial Association, Songshan Shaolin Temple, and Thai-Chinese Junior Chamber of Commerce. Thai celebrities and dignitaries are expected to attend.

Shi, who is also vice-president of the Chinese Buddhism Association, has visited Thailand on cultural exchanges several times before.

The abbot was accused of paying for sex with several women, including Buddhist nuns and some of his female followers. He has denied the accusations and turned to the police for help.
