(ECNS) - Officials from the National Stadium, commonly known as the Bird's Nest, rejected rumors that claim a section of the stadium has collapsed, according to Beijing News on Tuesday.

The Bird's Nest is suspected of falling apart during heavy rain as pictures online show a white object extending from the stadium's ceiling all the way to the audience seats.

However, official statements have clarified that the object is part of opening ceremony decorations for the up-coming Athletics World Championship to be held in Beijing in August.

The decorative prop resembles a tree if observed from the west. The design is intended to represent the hope that the athletic spirit will grow like a tree in Beijing. The decoration will be part of the opening ceremony, which incorporates four concepts - heaven, earth, mountains and water.
