(ECNS) -- China hopes Japan can learn from history and act in a way that will benefit Asia in terms of peace, security, stability and development, the defense ministry said at a press conference on Tuesday, in response to questions about Japan's overhauling its military and security policies.
In light of historical conflicts, Asian neighbors and the international community are highly sensitive to Japan's policy regarding military security, said Yang Yujun, a spokesman for China's Ministry of National Defense.
China hopes Japan will learn from history and adopt a peaceful path for development, according to Yang, who promoted the latter to bring more benefits to Asia's peace, security, stability and development.
China has released its white paper on military strategy on Tuesday, with Yang taking the opportunity to comment on Japan's security policy changes.
In its first chapter, the paper elaborates on national security issues, including the U.S. "rebalance" in Asia-Pacific policy and Japan's military security changes.
The white paper is consistent with China's long-standing position on these issues. It represents the country's concerns and offers an objective description of the current situation, Yang explained.
