(ECNS) -- Nearly one third of students rely on their parents to fund romances while they are studying, according to a survey by Renren Network, a leading real-name social networking platform in China.
Of 1,256 male and 1,317 female students, 30.3 percent say their parents provide extra funds for developing a relationship on campus, covering the costs of dinner, singing or shopping. And 28.4 percent save money from their living expenses to finance a relationship, while nearly 22 percent spend money made from part-time jobs on romance.
Some 20.4 percent say they would end a relationship if their parents objected to it, while 11 percent say they are not bothered by their parent's opinion. Close to 70 percent say they would try hard to change the view of their elders.
The survey found that 17.4 percent of respondents are now in a relationship, 37.8 percent are single, and 30.4 percent have never been in love.
Some 14.4 percent say they want to fall in love, but have not found the right person yet.
As for what students are looking for in a partner, 87.1 percent care about personality, followed by a common language (81.1 percent) and looks (58.2 percent).
