(ECNS) - For urban women, Beijing offers China's least satisfactory living environment and longest commutes, according to a survey reported by the Beijing Evening News on Wednesday.

Women living in Beijing face the country's longest commutes at 114.2 minutes, compared to the average of 76.6 minutes. Respondents said they also found Beijing's living environment least satisfactory. Beijing scored 49.6 points in that regard. In contrast, the top three cities were Guangzhou (70.9), Xi'an (61.8), and Hangzhou (63.4).

The survey was conducted by the Women of China magazine and its affiliated research institutes. Research samples came from 10 major cities in China, such as Beijing and Shanghai.

More than 21 percent of Chinese women were happy with their individual incomes of 7,267.20 yuan ($1,171) on average. Women's desired average income was 11,554 yuan, about 1.6 times what they currently earn.

The survey found that women work 8.3 hours per day on average. Those self-employed work the longest at 9.26 hours, while employees at public institutions work the shortest at 7.8 hours.

Women said their highest expenditure was for traveling, followed by clothing, healthcare products, cosmetics and fitness. Over the previous seven years clothing had ranked highest in terms of expenditure.
