(ECNS) – Excessive use of mobile devices could adversely affect relationships, a survey released by the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) has found.

The survey warns that the more frequently spouses use mobile devices at night, the lower their satisfaction with their marriages. Respondents who never or occasionally use mobile devices while with their loved ones feel happier about their relationships.

Of the 31,344 surveyed, 73.3 percent never switch off their smartphones, and 43 percent use smartphones or tablets during family gatherings. Even when staying with their spouses, many cannot resist the temptation of mobile devices, which have been dubbed "electronic rivals in love."

Huang Huaijun, a psychologist at the Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, told the newspaper Changjiang Times that white collar workers are prone to developing mobile phone addiction, which can cause bad temper and anxiety. People addicted to electronic devices may become uneasy when their handset or electronic device breaks down or is running out of battery, Huang said.

Therefore, the ACWF is calling on the nation to switch off mobile devices for one hour each day and restrict the use of electronic devices in order to focus on face-to-face communication with family members.
