(ECNS) -- Beijing plans to install grand flower gardens along Chang'an Avenue and on Tian'anmen Square to observe the 70th anniversary of victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-45), the first such initiative for the capital, The Mirror reported on Thursday.
The gardens will also celebrate the 70th anniversary of victory in the Anti-Fascist War, or World War II as it is known in the west.
A proposal has already been sent to the Beijing Municipal government for approval, according to the Bureau of Landscape and Forestry. Once signed off, arrangements are to be completed by August.
The ornamental gardens will be located along Chang'an Avenue at core traffic and commercial spots, including Fuxingmen, Xidan, Dongdan and Jian'guomen.
Some gardens will also serve in China's National Day celebrations, which follow the war anniversary.
Hot summer weather will be the biggest challenge to the gardens, with drought-resistant flowers and plants preferred, the report adds.
