(ECNS) - A survey shows that 70 percent of respondents welcome unisex public toilets, China National Radio reports.
Unisex public toilets are being constructed in some Chinese cities, including Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, while they are being abandoned in cities like Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu province.
A survey on CNR's Weibo and WeChat social media accounts found that most people are willing to use unisex public toilets.
Respondents thought that unisex toilets are particularly good for those who need mobility assistance, such as the elderly and children. In addition, unisex toilets may help solve the problem of long lines at women's restrooms.
However, some respondents expressed concerns that urinals may not be fixed to the walls of unisex public toilets, creating potential sanitary issues.
Female respondents were also concerned that men may smoke in the toilets.
