(ECNS) -- Police arrested a young man on suspicion of robbing tourists at knifepoint in a park in Guiyang, southwest China's Guizhou province, local media reported Thursday.

The alleged culprit is a 24-year-old man surnamed Yang, who has been dubbed "Monkey Boy" by local citizens.

Yang has raised monkeys in Qianlingshan Park since 2000, when he was only 9 years old. After his parents died, Yang traveled to Guiyang alone and found a cave on 'Monkey Hill' in the park, and has been living there ever since.

Monkey Boy was arrested in 2007 for robbery and spent seven years in prison. He was released last year and returned to Qianlingshan Park. However, he was arrested again for the same reason yesterday.

According to local media, Monkey Boy spent over 150 yuan ($24) on fruit for the 800 monkeys at the park, over half of the proceeds from robbing three tourists, following a large meal with his partner.
