(ECNS) -- The 360Vulcan Team from China successfully "broke" the Microsoft Windows 8.1 System and Internet Explorer (IE) 11 browser in just 17 seconds at the Pwn2Own 2015 hacking contest.

The team was the first from Asia in this competition to break the IE browser, Beijing Morning Post reported on Friday.

Pwn2Own is a top global computer hacking contest, where participants choose between IE, Chrome, Safari or Firefox as their competition items, among which IE and Chrome are the two most challenging attack projects, offering the most lucrative awards.

The IE11 browser is the toughest in this contest, protected by a strengthened sandbox, full 64-bit processing, Microsoft's Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET) and Win8.1 Security System. 360Vulcan Team, an international security research group from China, broke IE11 successfully with 0day bugs in a record time, according to the report.

The research group mainly focuses on designing and providing security solutions through their great experience researching system vulnerabilities.

As a global security software vendor, the team has received 68 official acknowledgements from Microsoft since 2009 for their contributions in reporting flaws. They were also Microsoft's only partner in China to receive Windows 10 for free.

The battle between cyber attack and defensive activities is endless, and only through constant innovation and improvements can experts explore the most effective security solutions, commented MJ0011, a staff member of 360Vulcan Team.
