(ECNS) - Guo Chuan, the record holder for single-handedly sailing nonstop around the world, will navigate the Trimaran IDEC for a voyage on the Maritime Silk Road, according to the Qingdao Yachting Association.

Taken over by Guo on behalf of the ship's owners in La Trinité, France, the Trimaran IDEC has been renamed the Qingdao·China.

"I am proud to take over this legendary trimaran on behalf of Qingdao," said Guo.

Guo's voyage will involve sailing on the 21st century Maritime Silk Road and a record-setting navigation across the Arctic Ocean.

"I hope to add a new and glorious page for China in the global sailing history," Guo said.

Because the weather-dependent departure time is still unconfirmed, Guo will train and refit the maxi-trimaran in France.

In 2013, Guo broke the world record by sailing 21,600 sea miles within 138 days around the world, single-handed and non-stop, with a 40-foot-long unpowered sailing ship.
