(ECNS) - Beijing has called for more charging poles in public places to support new energy vehicles, the Beijing Times reported on Tuesday.
Yan Aoshuang, a deputy to the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, and director of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, said shopping centers, large car parks and transfer stations are being urged to set up charging poles, and some are already under construction. Users will be able to find the nearest charging station by using map apps on their mobile phones, she said.
New energy vehicles may also be available for rent, a vehicle-leasing model that would be incorporated into the public transportation infrastructure, just like the public bike rental system, she added.
"This is an efficient traveling mode, which should first be promoted in important areas like airports and train stations," she stressed.
