Butcher masters pressure point to slaughter cattle

(ECNS) -- An experienced butcher has mastered the ability to slaughter cattle by inserting a screwdriver into the "pressure point" on either a bull or cow, according to a report by anhuinews.com.

A pressure point, also known as a vital point, refers to an area on the body that may produce significant pain or other effects when manipulated in a specific manner.

"Inserting a screwdriver into a point located at the top of a ox's head toward the neck can block the central nervous system and result in death within a few seconds," said Huang Shouxian, who has been studying this method for nearly twenty years.

Huang was originally inspired by an experienced Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner, whom he encountered when he worked in Nanjing, Jiangsu province in 1999.

After the practitioner explained how to block the central nervous system, Huang studied the physical structure of cattle and began practicing the method himself.

Using this technique to slaughter cattle improves the quality of the meat because the bleeding process is much more complete and there are less smelly odors, the butcher explained.

Shu Kailun, director of the Institute of Animal Health Supervision in Fengyang County, Anhui province said he believes this is a more effective and humane way to kill cattle, which deserves to be widely promoted.
