(ECNS) -- A running enthusiast made an online splash after he outran a train on Subway Line 4 in Shanghai, but authorities called a stop to proceedings due to security concerns.

Shen Qiaolin, director of a local running club, said his stunt was just for fun, Shanghai Morning Post reported.

In a video, Shen raced from Shanghai Indoor Stadium to the next stop, Shanghai Stadium, which are about 650 meters apart along the loop line. It took him 185 seconds to get back on the same train.

Shen, 30, retired from the army and now works as firefighter in Shanghai.

He loves running and visits the gym for 1 to 1.5 hours a day, five times a week. His running club has hundreds of members and usually organizes events on Tuesdays.

In the past, Shen failed eight times to run the route, sometimes because of large passenger numbers.

A staff member from Shanghai subways said the line is used for public transport and should not become a playground.

It poses a safety threat to commuters, it was added.
