(ECNS) -- Nearly 900,000 messages have been submitted to the online service "Premier Message Board" since it was launched on www.gov.cn, the Chinese government's website, in March 2014.

After being sorted and filtered by staff, these online suggestions will be submitted to Premier Li Keqiang and other relevant departments, China Business News reported.

As of October this year, eighteen suggestions have been dealt with by members of the State Council, China's Cabinet.

Some of the messages have attracted much attention and been handled by Premier Li Keqiang and relevant departments and officials, a person in charge of the service told the newspaper.

In September, a netizen called for government support for internet coverage in rural areas. Subsequently, the appeal was forwarded to the General Office of the Ministry of Industry and Information, which promptly took up the case.

"We don't let online messages go a day without being acknowledged, which is a basic requirement", according to a member of staff, adding that they are continually improving the system and related work.

"This is a comprehensive communication platform, which can help the government take note of public opinion," one official said.

The internet has become a microphone to voice opinions, and also helps leaders listen. Netizens are also encouraged to express public opinions and be socially aware, he added.
