Lanzhou (ECNS) -- Twenty-six young Russian government officials started training classes on Sunday in Lanzhou, northwest China's Gansu province.

The training, hosted by Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and organized by Lanzhou University, is part of a Russian federal government project aimed to nurture cadres.

Classes are offered by 13 renowned experts in Gansu on various topics, including the Chinese political system, social security, anti-graft mechanisms, medical care, environmental protection and control, as well as ethnic cultures in northwestern China.

MSU Associate Professor Maxim Viktorovich said the training will boost trainee understanding of Chinese politics and culture, and will be an important step in advancing cross-border cooperation.

In a congratulations letter, the International Cooperation and Exchange Department under China's Ministry of Education said it hopes the program could produce envoys of friendship for both sides.

Lanzhou University has been taking an active role in strengthening international cooperation, launching exchange programs and setting up Confucius Institutes in Russia and mid-Asian countries.
