(ECNS) - A Rainbow Run that weaved through the Olympic Forest Park in northern Beijing was criticized by visitors for polluting the environment.
Initiated by Chinese appliance retailer Suning to raise brand awareness and promote outdoor activity, the 5K run attracted over a thousand people on Saturday, September 27.
According to park goers, the colored powder used during the run caused a mess and affected the public at large.
"The running lanes and grass are covered with colored powder, and participants were seen littering," a visitor complained.
A park cleaner confirmed that runners strew colored powder, plastic bags and bottles all over the place and that it will take at least three rounds of cleaning to completely rectify the situation.
A Suning representative said the powder is made from corn starch and is harmless to nature. The company has sent over a hundred people to help clean the park following the event.
"Cleaning work should be done by opening time tomorrow," a park employee surnamed Ji revealed.
"If the company fails to clean up as requested in the contract, we'll hire a cleaning company and deduct the cost from the deposit," she added.
