Fangchenggang (ECNS) -- Police in Dongxing of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region said they had captured 16 suspects who attempted to cross the China-Vietnam border on Wednesday, according to the local public security bureau's Weibo account.
Police said they found the 16 at Zhongdong Dock trying to enter Vietnam illegally. They subsequently informed the Vietnamese police and rounded up the group.
One suspect was confirmed to have ventured into a nearby school during the chase, but was immediately captured.
Students at the school said no one was injured, Beijing News reported.
The nationality of each suspect has yet to be revealed.
Police also called on the public to avoid heeding or spreading indiscriminate rumors, in response to suggestions that an unidentified gang invaded the Dongxing Middle School and injured several students on Wednesday.
Dongxing is a border city neighboring Vietnam's Mong Cai. It is one of China's biggest land border crossings.
