(ECNS) -- A massive rainstorm-triggered landslide in the Three Gorges Reservoir region has destroyed a power station and interrupted a state highway, Xinhua reports.

Around 800,000 square meters of mountain area collapsed due to continuous rainfall upstream, damaging the Daling Power Station in Zigui county, Hubei province, and blocking the G348 state highway.

Altogether 429 citizens, together with 524 students and teachers at a school, have been evacuated.

Police have been deployed to guard roads leading to the stricken areas.
