(ECNS) – China and Russia are set to establish a joint university to boost educational ties.

In May, the education ministries of both countries signed a memorandum of understanding on creating a joint university in Shenzhen, a city in Guangdong province. The university will be formed by the Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and the Beijing Institute of Technology.

MSU president Viktor Sadovnichy said the joint university would be an effective engine to push forward educational cooperation and help produce talents in many areas.

According to the memorandum, the university will create a curriculum based on that of MSU. In its initial stage, the university will have majors including arts and culture, management, Russian language and literature, economics and international trade. In the later stages it will open more majors such as media, aerospace engineering, auto manufacturing, chemistry and physics.

Courses will be offered in Russian, Chinese and English. There will also be opportunities for students to intern at Russian companies or joint ventures, and receive two diplomas from MSU and the joint university.
