(ECNS)—A 3-year-old girl named Xiaoman has nearly died from a toxic needle shot by an unidentified person in Zhuhai, a city in Guangdong province.

At around 9:30pm Sunday, the girl's father was driving his motorcycle past a library, carrying his wife and two children. The needle suddenly came from an unknown location and lodged in his wife's backpack.

When she removed the backpack from her shoulders, the dart jabbed into her daughter's head.

The girl fell into a coma within three seconds and her parents rushed her to the hospital.

The girl was brought out of danger, but the doctors couldn't come up with a treatment because they couldn't determine what was inside the needle.

A legal medical expert said the liquid is called succinylcholine, which can paralyze a person's respiratory muscles and kill them in just six to 10 minutes. Even if the person is saved, brain damage is likely.

Xiaoman is receiving an infusion therapy that will hopefully take the toxin out.

Police said they are still investigating the case.
