(ECNS) -- China's Peace Ark naval hospital ship held a demonstration Saturday on the sidelines of the Rim of the Pacific exercise (RIMPAC), winning praise from foreign medical peers.

Led by Timothy Hinman, chief medical officer of the US Third Fleet, nine foreign medical staff visited the Peace Ark in Hawaii.

The visitors toured several areas on the ship, including a preparation area for surgery and one for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), accompanied by Sun Tao, head of the Peace Ark's hospital.

A Canadian military doctor, who said he had experienced Chinese acupuncture and massage before, volunteered to try Chinese suction cup therapy.

He said that TCM and other treatments were very beneficial.

The facilities aboard China's first domestically developed 10,000-ton hospital ship are the same as in a top-tier hospital. It's been called the "life boat" by the Chinese navy.

The Peace Ark, together with the Chinese destroyer Haikou, the frigate Yueyang, and the supply ship Qiandaohu, have taken part in RIMPAC, the world's biggest naval exercise.
