(ECNS) – The story of a Chinese man stranded in South Korea after his 4-year-old son doodled all over his passport could be a hoax that went viral.

Pictures of the passport were originally posted on Chinese social networking site Weibo by a man surnamed Chen on May 15. Thanks to the kid's drawings, Chen said, he was stopped by border officials when he tried to board a flight back to China.

The funny pictures quickly went viral. Celebrities reposted them, and UK's Daily Telegraph did a story on June 2, followed by other media all over the world.

The boy had scribbled two eyes, a mouth, a beard and hair on his dad's picture, along with drawings of a cat, flowers and a few figures all over the pages.

Netizens noticed that the pictures might be fake as the black ink looked consistent – something that could only be done with computer software. Also, it may be more than a coincidence that all the personal information was covered by the drawings.

The Consular Section of the Chinese Embassy in South Korea said no request for help has been received. If something like that happened, the embassy could issue a new passport.
