(ECNS) -- The implementation of a tourist visa waiver between China and Thailand may be delayed now that Thailand's Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was ordered to step down on Wednesday, the Beijing News reports.

Xu Liping, a researcher at the National Institute of International Strategy under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said on Thursday that the political instability in Thailand may contribute to the extension of the visa program's approval process.

The program can't be passed until a new parliament is set up in Thailand after a general election, Xu added.
