(ECNS)-- A primary school principal in Xianning, Hubei province, kissed a piglet after losing a bet with his students over whether the children can get lose the habit of littering on the road outside the school, Southern Metropolis Daily said on Tuesday.

Hong Yaoming, vice president of Xianning Experimental Primary School, made a splash online after a 19-second video clip showing him kissing a pig was posted.

The kiss originated from a bet he made during a flag-raising ceremony in March, when he promised to kiss a piglet if his students could break the habit of littering within one month.

Hong's commitment to improve students' green awareness has paid off, as the campus and the road in front of the school have become cleaner in the past month.

To fulfill his promise, Hong borrowed a piglet from one of his friends on Sunday, but he didn't expect the pig to be so big.

"Instead of a regular-sized piglet weighing less than five kilograms, the pig I got was about 20 kilograms," Hong said.

"I was stressed by the bet, I couldn't imagine how horrible it would be if the pig bites me when I kiss it," Hong added.

Hong finally decided to meet the challenge and planted a kiss on the mouth of the pig in front of all the students and teachers at the school at a flag-raising ceremony on Monday morning.

Hong's action has been praised by netizens, who said his commitment and honesty have given students a meaningful lesson.
