(ECNS) -- Having experienced two failed marriages, a man in Deyang, Sichuan province, imprisoned his first ex-wife in a cellar for half a month, the Chengdu Business Daily reported.

The victim named Lin Yan has been freed by local police, and the suspect named Lin Dajun is under criminal detention.

The woman's family reported her disappearance on April 17. Local police deduced that her ex-husband might be involved.

Police searched Lin Dajun's house and found Lin Yan locked in a dark cellar covered by a millstone in his yard.

The victim told police she had been tricked into going to her ex-husband's house, and that he had threatened her not to leave. She said she was allowed limited freedom in the house when her ex-husband was at home.

The case is still under investigation.
