(ECNS) -- A 19-year-old high school student in Zhejiang province leapt to his death without any warning during an evening class on Thursday.

Camera footage of the tragedy has been splashed across the front pages of multiple news sites.

In the video clip, students sit in a classroom at Xiaozhen High School, located in Wenzhou's Pingyang county. They appear to be preparing materials for class, except for a boy sitting motionless in the first row by a window.

Shortly after 7pm, the boy suddenly stands up and jumps out of the window, sparking panic among the teacher and students.

Amid the screams and commotion, the teacher finally called the police after being reminded by students.

Local police confirmed that the student surnamed He had died in hospital and that they had ruled out homicide.

The student was in his third year of senior middle school and scheduled to take part in the college entrance exam in June. It is believed that his death was caused by the pressure of his studies, a local news website said.

The local educational department has made no comment yet.
