(ECNS) -- China will set up a national housing information network by 2020, the Beijing News said, citing an urbanization plan unveiled Sunday by the central government.
The plan aims to establish a unified property registration system and the State Council has demanded the Ministry of Land and Resources to adopt an ordinance by this June.
China had already planned to launch a national housing information network in 2010, but progress has been slow.
The network had included 40 major cities by last February, which should have been accomplished eight months ago, government data show.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development planned to expand the network to 500 cities by last June, but only 60 cities have been covered, the newspaper said, using anonymous sources.
Jiang Weixin, head of the ministry, admitted at an internal meeting that it has been harder than expected.
Gu Yunchang, deputy head of the China Real Estate and Housing Research Association, attributed the slow progress to obstruction by some interest groups.
Jia Kang, head of the Institute for Fiscal Science Research under the Ministry of Finance, said that certain local governments had intentionally delayed the process.
Experts agreed that the network would help the government take more accurate measures against property inflation, including the expansion of property taxes.
