(ECNS) -- A man has found a plastic box containing 151 bullets in a lake in Wuhan, Hubei province, the Wuhan Evening News reported on Wednesday.

Of unknown origin, the bullets were found in Ziyang Lake by a worker surnamed Xue on Tuesday morning while he was cleaning up garbage.

"I saw a box lying in the water near the shore of the lake," Xue said. "I thought it was an abandoned shoebox and picked it up."

Xue was astonished after he opened the box. "There were so many bullets in it, and they looked like real ones," said Xue, who reported the case to local police.

At a length of over three centimeters, the bullets are indeed real, and look similar to those used in rifles, according to a police officer.

The bullets will be destroyed by the public security bureau in Wuchang district.

A further investigation of the source of the bullets is underway.
