(ECNS) – Beijing on Wednesday released the first two new-energy vehicles that qualify owners for license plates without entering a lottery, the Beijing Times reports.
The two cars are the E150EV, manufactured by the Beijing Automotive Group, and the BYD E6.
A total of 1,428 applicants for new-energy cars acquired license plates on Wednesday without participating in a lottery, while 1,666 plates are available for new-energy vehicles per month, according to Beijing's license quota.
A director at the Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology said another list of green cars will be released on March 10, and that the second and third batches will come out in June and September.
More brands and types will be added to the list, and some foreign brands such as Tesla could be included, he said.
Xu Xinchao, a division head at the Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission, said tests on the E150EV and the BYD E6 were finished earlier than others. "All types of new energy cars need to pass a series of tests and inspections before they are put on the list, and a number of types are still being tested."
The maximum subsidy for a new-energy car in the capital is as high as 114,000 yuan ($18,628).
