(ECNS)-- A man in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region with only half of his head, which looks like a deflated ball, still manages to take care of himself day to day, gxnews.com.cn reported on Tuesday.

Wei Liqin, 34, who lives in Nongji village, Xiyan town of Shanglin county in Guangxi, said he lost two-fifths of his skull in an attack in Dongguan, Guangdong province, in 2011, when he was working there.

The injury made him forget how the incident happened. The only thing he knew was that two-fifths of his skull was gone when he woke up in a hospital in Dongguan.

Doctors at the hospital told him that he might have been robbed, since nearly all of his money was gone when he came to the hospital.

Wei said part of his skull might have been removed in an operation at the hospital. A social relief agency in Dongguan helped him return to his hometown.

Wei lived with his brother and 93-year-old grandmother. With no money for further treatments, Wei chose to recover at home.

Wei's story became known to some people who were bringing aid to his poor village in November 2013.

Shocked by Wei's injuries and the poor condition of his family, they decided to help him and posted his photo online, hoping to attract attention from the public.

Some warm-hearted netizens launched a donation campaign for Wei.

Wei said his injury still hurts, but he can do some light work for his family. He hopes someday he can save enough money to get an artificial skull through surgery, which may cost 40,000 yuan ($6,595).
