Casual sex common among Dongguan factory workers

(ECNS) -- The number of female workers at factories in Dongguan, Guangdong province, has always been much higher than male workers, which led to male workers having multiple sexual relationships at the same time, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

As a manufacturing hub in China, Dongguan attracts hundreds of thousands of migrant workers to the city.

Li Bing had relationships with three girls at the same time. "They all know it, and they treated me nicer rather than leave me," said Li, adding that the girls were lonely being far away from home.

The situation was quite common in factories. A Sichuan worker surnamed Lin said he had three girlfriends as well, which was not a secret among his acquaintances. "If a man has only one girlfriend here, he would be laughed at."

Survey data from the Dongguan branch of Guangdong Women's Rights and Information Service shows that 60.5 percent of female workers work in Dongguan for money but will go back to their hometowns to marry or start a business in the future.

Liu Xiulian, the center's Dongguan branch leader, said many young female workers were inexperienced. They easily developed relationships and had sex with men, but most of them still plan to marry a fellow villager, for "they understand each other well."
