(ECNS) -- Chinese netizens are touched by a one-legged man who supports himself by cleaning the streets, the West China Metropolis Daily reported on Tuesday.
Zheng Changjiang, 60, lost one leg years ago in an industrial accident. Zheng and his wife, Zhao Shuxian, live in a rented apartment in Renshou county of Sichuan province, and the couple has two sons who are working in other cities.
Zheng lost his leg 30 years ago while working in a coal mine. The tough man said that he himself was not a cleaner.
"I clean the streets to help my wife, who is a cleaner," said Zheng, who added that his wife got the job six years ago.
Zhao signed a contract with the local government, according to which, she must clean a four-kilometer road every day.
After getting the job, Zheng and his wife wake up at about 3:00 every morning.
"Thanks to the job, we can earn over 10,000 yuan ($1,652) every year, which is enough to support our family," he said. "I choose to do this because I want to prove I'm not a burden to my sons."
Zheng added that only by working can he live with dignity.
After being posted online by a micro blog user, Zheng's photos were forwarded more than 11,380 times, and he was crowned "the toughest cleaner in China" by netizens.
