(ECNS) – A man in Beijing took photos every day in 2013 to record the changes in air quality, the Beijing Youth Daily reports.
Starting from Jan 27, the man named Zhou Yi took 365 photos, each one set against the backdrop of the Beijing Television Station. He named the set of photos "Yimuliaoran" (Clear at a Glance), hoping to evoke public awareness of environmental protection.
The photos were usually taken around 7:00 a.m., said Zhou, who had the property management company take the photos when he was away.
Zhou cited his career as inspiration for the project: "When visiting African countries for business, I found that people there valued optimization of energy structure and environmental protection, which inspired my concern about the domestic situation."
Zhou has shared his photos through Weibo and WeChat, attracting people in other cities to take on similar projects. "I hope the activity will cause more people to realize the significance of protecting the environment."
According to reports released by the Municipal Bureau of Environmental Protection, Beijing had 176 days of "good" air quality in 2013.
