Beijing (ECNS) – A Green Book on China's tourism issued on Wednesday by the Tourism Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) suggested the country should add another two to six days to its public holidays, of which there are now 11, in order to revive a Golden Week for May Day and extend by several days the Spring Festival holiday.
Holiday arrangements in recent years have caused social complaints, and many people hoped public holidays would be extended to ease the travel chaos during the National Holiday.
The Green Book, however, predicts that the travel congestion during the 2014 National Holiday will not lessen, but become worse.
As the decision-making department takes the public's voice serious and responds to it, the holiday system and arrangements are likely to be further adjusted to give the public more days off and more options for travel schedules, according to the book.
In addition to public holidays, the book also suggests paid leaves be ensured by joint efforts by the government and society.
What's more, the book says, vacation options need to be diversified, and less well-known scenic spots should upgrade and promote themselves to attract more tourists and ease the chaos at the most popular tourist attractions.
