(ECNS) – A woman has disappeared with money donated for her one-year-old son, who is suffering from a tumor, the Guangzhou Daily reported.
The boy's father, Chen Yong, said they received about 160,000 yuan ($26,448) in donations for his son Xiaolong and spent 28,000 yuan ($4,628) on his tumor and kidney removal surgery.
His mother, Wu Jingli, took the rest, about 130,000 yuan ($21,489), and disappeared, Chen said.
Xiaolong still needs chemotherapy, but having no money to pay, Chen had to bring him home.
After Chen failed to reach Wu by phone or find her at her parents' home, Chen took her to court.
Liu Bilin, Chen's lawyer, said Chen will have to prove that they received 160,000 yuan and that Wu did take the rest of the donations.
"He didn't have enough evidence at present," Liu said.
Xiaolong was diagnosed with Wilms' tumor in October 2012, and a media report on the boy in July 2013 helped bring in financial assistance from the public.
