(ECNS) -- A man in South China's Guangdong province committed suicide after he was wrongly accused by an old man to whom he had lent a hand, a local TV program reported.
On the last day of 2013, the man surnamed Wu in Heyuan city was riding a motorbike and came upon an older man who had fallen down on the street. Wu took the old man to a local hospital, which said he had cracked a bone in his leg.
Two days later, the families of the old man called Wu, saying Wu's motorbike hit the old man, and asked for compensation of several hundred thousand yuan.
Wu had no way to prove his innocence, and jumped into a pond.
Local police later found no traces of the accident on Wu's motorbike.
Zhou, a witness, said he helped first when the man fell, and he was the one who asked Wu to take the old man to the hospital. Zhou said he felt guilty and Wu is an honest man.
