London(CNS) -- China's ambassador to Britain Liu Xiaoming has likened China to a “kung fu panda” that upholds justice, stressing that China’s peaceful development is not a threat to the world, China News Service said.

During a speech at the Royal College of Defence Studies in the United Kingdom, Liu said “China is a participant, a builder and maintainer of the international system,” and is “neither an onlooker, nor a trouble-maker, nor a spoiler.”

He called on the world not to worry about China's development, adding that there is no need for “knee-jerk reactions of panic” in reaction to its rise.

Liu also compared China to “a peaceful, lovable and amicable lion,” saying it is “no longer a sleeping lion, nor an 'elephant in a china shop', nor a 'crouching tiger or a hidden dragon' that seeks revenge.”

The world has become a global village of interdependence, where relationships between established powers and emerging powers is no longer a zero-sum game, he said.

“It is not the rise of some and the fall of others. It is not the gain of some at the cost of others.”

All countries should work together to make the pie larger and share the benefits of development together, Liu added.

China proposes “three shares”: respect, joint development, and joint security, according to him.

Earlier this year, Liu likened Japan to the Harry Potter villain Lord Voldemort in an article for the Telegraph newspaper.
