(ECNS) – A 77-year-old woman in Liucheng county, Guangxi province, plunged into cold water and saved a drowning 86-year-old woman, according to gxnews.com.cn.
On the afternoon of Dec 22, Wei Shuying saw an older woman falling into a 3-meter-wide river upstream about 10 meters away. After failing to pull her up from the bank, Wei jumped into the water to give her a hand.
Wei is 1.6 meters tall and could barely touch the bottom of the river. She tried several times but failed to push the older woman out of the water. Luckily, passersby saw them and pulled them out.
"But for her (Wei's) heroic act, I couldn't have seen my mother again," said Xie Jinwang, the older woman's son.
Wei said she couldn't swim, but when seeing people in danger, she had no time to think about herself and just jumped into the water.
It's not the first time Wei helped someone from drowning. In the summer, Wei pulled up an 88-year-old woman who slipped into the water in the same place.
"It's no big deal. Anyone would help if they saw that," she said.
