(ECNS) – The first case of the elderly suing their children for care in Beijing ended in favor of the parent, according to the Beijing News.
Two daughters of an 81-year-old plaintiff Yin Kaixi were ordered to pay living expenses of nearly 1,000 yuan per month and visit their father at least once a month.
Yin claimed that the two daughters of his six children haven't given him any financial support for 19 years, and demanded that they make up for it, by supporting him for the rest of his life and visiting him once a week.
The two daughters, one born in 1955 and the other in 1960, responded that they have performed their obligations and given him money. However, they had no evidence to support their claims.
They also said they could pay their father.s living expenses but couldn't promise to visit him frequently.
The court sided with the man's demand to support him for the rest of his life and ordered the two children to visit him once a month.
China's new elder care law took effect on July 1, requiring children to visit their parents regularly and make sure their financial and spiritual needs are met.
