Shijiazhuang (ECNS) – A primary school in Shijiazhuang city, Hebei province, has created a set of aerobic exercises featuring martial arts to help students fight the harm caused by smog.

Lu Yubang, a martial arts teacher at the school, who contributed 23 movements to the exercises, said they were designed to be done in classrooms and can help students strengthen their immune systems, and some martial movements can help them detoxify lungs.

The education bureau in Shijiazhuang has ordered schools to suspend outdoor physical activities on smoggy days.

A fourth grade teacher said more students suffered from respiratory diseases this year. "In the worst smoggy days, eight of the 40 students in my class couldn't come to school because of respiratory illness."

Shijiazhuang is among the worst polluted cities in China.
