(ECNS) -- An old woman was being invited to sit down when she fell to the floor of a bus in Chengde, Hebei province, prompting her to demand compensation from the girl who had offered her a seat, the Chengde Evening News said Wednesday.

"Because the old woman couldn't keep her balance on the crowded bus, a girl offered her seat," said a passenger surnamed Zhang. "But right when the old woman was about to sit down, the bus stopped suddenly and she fell."

Sitting on the floor of the bus, the old woman groaned and blamed the girl for her injuries. "If you hadn't offered your seat to me, I would not have fallen down. Now you have to compensate me."

Having no idea how to cope with the situation, the girl called her mother for help.

The mother said her daughter should not be blamed, but the old woman remained on the bus floor, insisting that it was the girl's generosity that had caused the mishap.

Finally, the mother paid 200 yuan (32.9 US dollars) as compensation to the old woman, and took the daughter off the bus.
