(ECNS) -- A graduate student in Central China stole a luxury car just to show it off on WeChat's Friend Circle, which features social networking services, Xiaoxiang Morning Herald reported.

Yu Shuqing, 24, who is studying for his master's degree in Hubei province, drove away with an 800,000-yuan ($131,147) BMW from an auto 4s shop in Changsha, in neighboring Hunan province, after a test drive last Wednesday.

After driving back to Wuhan, the first thing he did was posting a photo of himself and the car on WeChat's Friend Circle, a place where people can share photos and messages with their friends, with the caption, "The second car in my life."

Later, Yu was arrested and brought back to Changsha to face trial.

Xiao Jianming, the police officer in charge of the case, said Yu confessed of being envious of others flaunting their cars, and then telling friends that he started an enterprise and bought a BMW.

Yu turned to theft after making up the lie. Last month, he bought a set of fake identity cards and chose the auto 4s shop in Changsha.
