(ECNS) -- A middle-aged woman who was said to have conned a motorcycle-riding foreign man out of 1,800 yuan ($300) in Beijing hit headlines Tuesday morning, but later, Beijing News found two witnesses who said the motorcyclist abused the woman verbally and knocked her down.

Photos showing a young foreigner encountering "pengci" (literally meaning "bumping porcelain," referring to faked injuries in accidents) in Beijing's Chaoyang District spread quickly online.

In the photos, a middle-aged woman pulls at the clothes and motorcycle of the foreign man, surrounded by a group of people. The caption says the woman pretended to have been hit by the motorcyclist, and got 1,800 yuan from him.

Beijing News later said reporters interviewed two separate witnesses and learned that the woman was indeed hit by the foreign man who was riding a motorcycle without a license plate. There was a young woman on the back seat.

A video offered by one witness showed the foreign man scolding the woman using dirty words in fluent Chinese.

Four policemen went to the location to investigate, the newspaper said, adding that the real victim was angry about the earlier report.
