(ECNS) – An app called "Baogongzi" (revealing wages) has gone viral for revealing the salaries paid to individual employees at various companies, according to China National Radio.
The app limits the number of queries for anonymous users, but those who share their own wage information get unlimited access.
Zhang Peng, a media professional, said the app has become popular by taking advantage of people's curiosity about the incomes of others.
"Wages are directly related to a person's economic benefit," Zhang said, adding that the app also provides a reference for salary standards in a variety of industries.
Most companies require employees to keep their salaries confidential, and the recruitment information they post online doesn't generally reflect accurate wage levels.
Some users have expressed concern that uploading personal wage information will infringe upon their privacy. However, the app's development team said that users can erase their names and employee identification numbers before uploading their pay sheets.
